Overview

Louisa May Alcott's
LITTLE WOMEN
Adapted by Kathryn Marquet and Maxine Mellor
Directed by Bridget Boyle

Little Women can do anything. If only the world would let them.

Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy are sisters, rivals, and best friends – four young women growing up in the shadow of the American Civil War who refuse to conform to the expectations of their era. Jo wants to be a writer. Meg wants to fall in love. Amy wants everything. And Beth just wants everyone to be happy.

Adapted for the stage by a team of Queensland’s finest femme creatives including Director Bridget Boyle (Pride and Prejudice), award-winning playwrights Maxine Mellor and Kathryn Marquet, and an all-Queensland cast featuring Courtney Cavallaro (A Few Good Men) as Jo – this is Little Women redefined for a generation who know what it’s like to grow-up and stand-up in a dramatically changing world.

In the tradition of runaway hits Pride & Prejudice and The Great Gatsby, this is Louisa May Alcott’s literary treasure with its sleeves rolled up. Whip-smart, joyful, heartbreaking and iconic, Little Women is filled with a fabulous cast of females each with their own brand of main character energy long before women were allowed to have it.

Queensland Theatre Company invites devoted readers and first-time friends of this coveted classic to bravely march alongside the March sisters – with defiance, daring and determination. Because whether you’re nine or 90, a woman’s dreams should never come with a use-by date.
