Acknowledgement of Traditional Custodians

We pay our respects to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ancestors of this land, their spirits and their legacy. The foundations laid by these ancestors give strength, inspiration and courage to current and future generations, both First Nations and non-First Nations peoples, towards creating a better Queensland.

Overview

While modern science traces its roots back a few thousand years, the reality is that knowledge has been collected for far longer.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples were the first scientists of this land, holding deep, centuries-old understandings of the world. But how much of the current scientific approach, especially in terms of caring for marine and coastal environments, is shaped by this old knowledge?

Join Cheryl Leavy and special guests for a discussion exploring and applying traditional knowledges in current marine research and practice.

Cheryl Leavy is the inaugural QM First Nations Fellowship recipient which is proudly supported by the Queensland Museum Foundation.
