Come and learn to weave at Clancestry! During this free workshop, learn about the regeneration of traditional cultural practices using recycled materials and coconut palm leaves to create your very own masterpiece.
Participants will work through different weaving techniques and how to twist and weave together different textures, while sharing in the storytelling of our ancestors.
All materials will be provided for this free workshop – no bookings required!

Weaving with Coconut Palm Leaves by Bowie Solutions
9:30am to 11am | Lyric Lounge
The Bowie Family acknowledges the traditional owners of this area and their elders. The Bowie Family come from Badu, Mabuiag, Pulu and Erub Islands in the Torres Strait. The traditional weaving they will demonstrate is from Erub Island and has been passed down for many generations. In this session coconut palm leaves will be used to weave items that have both traditional and contemporary uses.

Sonja is a Quandamooka woman who works in the mediums of fibre, exploring traditional and contemporary weaving practices, reflecting her family cultural and spiritual connections with the land and seas of Quandamooka Country.
