Acknowledgement of Traditional Custodians

We pay our respects to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ancestors of this land, their spirits and their legacy. The foundations laid by these ancestors give strength, inspiration and courage to current and future generations, both First Nations and non-First Nations peoples, towards creating a better Queensland.

Lisa Simone: A Daughter's Tribute to Nina Simone 2025

Fri 2 May 2025
Lisa Simone

“Commanding and beyond compare, there is a lushness to Simone’s voice that could best be described as transcendental… Lisa Simone is THE legacy.”

It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new life…

Following her sold out tour-de-force performances at the Brisbane International Jazz Festival in 2023 and Queensland Performing Arts Centre's (QPAC) Concert Hall,  the Centre is pleased to announce the highly anticipated return of Dame Lisa Simone, to reprise the iconic classics of her mother, Dr Nina Simone, as only she can.

Lisa Simone’s voice and stage prowess has not only earned her worldwide recognition, but practically every accolade, including GRAMMY nominations, starring roles on Broadway, and chart-topping albums.

She premiered the Disney roles of Aida (Aida) and Nala (The Lion King) and won the “National Broadway Theatre Award for Best Actress in a Musical” for her leading role in Aida’s First National Tour. A member of the original Broadway cast of Rent, she subsequently headed its First National Tour in the role of Mimi Marquez and was nominated for both the Helen Hayes Award and Jefferson Award for her performance.

In 2008, Lisa topped the jazz charts with “Simone on Simone”, her big band tribute album to her mother, lovingly coined “an homage to the Great One who walked before me”. In 2000, she was nominated for a Grammy Award as a member of the acid jazz group, Liquid Soul; and in 2016, she executive-produced the Oscar nominated Netflix documentary about her mother’s life, “What Happened, Miss Simone?”.

Get ready to take an extraordinary musical journey with Lisa and her incredible band, for one night only on 28 July in QPAC's Concert Hall, and experience how magnificently the legacy of Nina Simone lives on.

Audiences can expect feel-good Nina Simone classics including:

I Put a Spell on You
Feelin’ Good
Black Is the Colour
Mississippi Goddam
And more…

Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind concert event full of music, emotion, and pure artistic brilliance. Tickets on sale now at qpac.com.au or phone 136 246.
