Musical Theatre students at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University (QCGU) are set to hit the big stage in an ‘electrifying’ production of Grease.

We’re thrilled to be welcoming close to 70 students from the esteemed ‘Con’ (Conservatorium) who will graduate straight to our largest theatre, The Lyric, in a special presentation of this iconic musical.

“We’ve long partnered with QCGU to provide performance opportunities for students from The Con as we’re committed to fostering and showcasing the rich artistic talent we have here in Queensland,” QPAC Chief Executive John Kotzas said.

“It is very rare that we’d have availability in The Lyric schedule to enable us to give these future stars the chance to shine on the big stage and so this opportunity really is a silver lining in amongst the cloud of COVID.”

Griffith University Vice Chancellor and President Professor Carolyn Evans said it was an historic opportunity for students to perform in the state’s largest theatre.

“This is a chance for audiences to see the next generation of musical theatre stars in the state’s premier performing arts venue.

“Our program has a focus on industry engagement, and it is vital that our students build their professional networks and gain exposure to the industry while they study.

“Our longstanding association with QPAC has provided once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for our students.”

“Queensland Conservatorium alumnus Shubshri Kandiah was discovered during a partnership program with QPAC and later made her professional debut in Disney’s Aladdin in the leading role of Princess Jasmine in the Lyric Theatre.

“Theatre has the power to transform, transport and inspire and this production encourages audiences to consider the challenges facing our society, from gender equity to social justice.

“Theatre goers can expect everything they love about Grease and more, with some unique changes that bring it very much into 2021.”

Presented by QPAC, this double cast production will see the entire Musical Theatre cohort bring their fresh take on the enduring story of Rydell High’s class of ‘59, accompanied by musicians from the Queensland Conservatorium.
