This year’s Mabo Oration will be held at Cairns Performing Arts Centre on Friday, 30 May 2025 from 5:30pm.
2025 celebrates 20 years of The Mabo Oration collaboration between the Queensland Human Rights Commission and QPAC.
The Mabo Oration pays tribute to Eddie Mabo and the landmark High Court decision, which legally recognised that Indigenous people have a special relationship to the land that existed prior to colonisation.
This year’s Oration will be delivered in Cairns by Katie Kiss – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner. Commissioner C’Zarke Maza from the Office of the Commissioner (Meriba Omasker Kaziw Kazipa) will host the event with performances by Gerib Sik Mer Island Dance troupe.
