A granite façade, alive with the chatter of excitement and laughter, looms ahead.
The staircase beckons you in and upwards. And it’s there, echoing gloriously through the foyer halls, that you hear it. Your music calling the theatre audience to their seats.
If you dream of having your music heard by audiences in theatres across the country – QPAC among them – then the Artology Fanfare competition could be the opportunity you have been waiting for.
Typically played by brass instruments and percussion, a fanfare is a short piece of music designed to gain the attention of an audience.
The Fanfare competition invites young composers aged 12 to 21 years to submit their own short 30 second attention-grabbing composition.
24 winners will work with respected mentor composers Nicholas Vines, Lyle Chan, Jessica Wells and Chrysoulla Markoulli to develop ideas and finalise their work.
These final works will be professionally recorded and broadcast across theatre and concert venues Australia-wide, with further opportunities for live in-concert performance and sound design development also on offer.
“Creativity is our most valuable human resource, especially in these times of change,” says Anna Cerneaz, MD of Artology.
“Opportunities to play, to think, to create are essential to our future. Fanfare encourages creativity with achievable real-life outcomes for young people to be inspired and let their imaginations go wild.”
QPAC has worked with Artology to bring the fanfares of young Australians to our foyers since 2018 and we are proud to support the creative growth and professional development of these emerging composers.
