Unfortunately, due to ongoing international COVID-19 uncertainties, QSO are unable to present the planned concert of Four Last Songs.

Whist conductor Ludovic Morlot and soprano Emma Pearson are no longer able to bring Richard Strauss’ incredible work to the stage, QSO are delighted to instead present this adjusted Season Closing Gala concert.

Conductor Umberto Clerici

Rossini Overture to La gazza ladra (The Thieving Magpie)
Debussy La mer
R. Strauss Suite from Der Rosenkavalier, TrV 227, Op.59

In the final Queensland Symphony Orchestra concert for the 2021 season, Umberto Clerici will lead the Orchestra in a concert that spans three composers, countries, and styles. First, a trip to the Italian opera hall for The Thieving Magpie Overture by Rossini, made famous by A Clockwork Orange, and a great curtain raiser in every sense of the word. Also on the opera without words theme, we have assembled a massive orchestra to perform the orchestral suite of music from Richard Strauss’ legendary opera Der Rosenkavalier. Finally, the concert also features one of Debussy’s great masterpieces, La mer (The Sea), an invocation of the sea so strong, you can almost smell the salt and hear the waves.

With Maestro Clerici at the lead and one of the biggest assembly of musicians on stage this year, this will go down as a night of exhilaration and music-making at the highest level.

Clerici and the QSO were brilliant.Dr Gemma Regan
