Bangarra Dance Theatre

Overview

Bangarra Dance Theatre is acclaimed worldwide for its authentic storytelling, distinctive voice and moving performances. In 2017, the company returns with Bennelong, a new full-length work by Artistic Director Stephen Page.

Woollarawarre Bennelong was a senior man of the Eora, from the Port Jackson area in Sydney. With extraordinary curiosity and diplomacy, Bennelong led his community to survive a clash of cultures, and left a legacy that reverberates through contemporary life.

Bennelong is Bangarra at its best. The company celebrates the continuation of life and culture through the power, artistry and passion of the country’s most acclaimed dancers. With its immersive soundscapes and exquisite design, Bennelong will leave you in awe of Australia’s history – and its power to repeat.

Don’t miss your only chance to experience Bangarra in 2017.

“A modern dance company unlike any other.” The New York Times
★★★★★ “Bennelong is an extraordinarily powerful work, a benchmark in Australian dance creativity. It sums up yesterday, today and perhaps tomorrow in a swirling series of storytelling episodes that explore Indigenous lives in an Australia colonised by Europeans.” Sydney Morning Herald
★★★★½ “Bangarra fires on all cylinders in seminal tale of first contact … Dauntingly iconic, profoundly sad, Bennelong is beautifully realised.” Limelight Magazine
